The Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) Technician is responsible for the daily care, husbandry, and enrichment of animals used in research and teaching. Core duties include administering routine medications and preparing specific maintenance or experimental diets, maintaining safety and sanitation standards across the animal care facility, keeping accurate logs of animal census, daily room statuses, and medical treatments, and driving and transporting animals as needed. Mandatory personnel include working weekends and holidays.
Physical requirements and licensure: Must possess or obtain a valid North Carolina driver's license within 60 days of the start date and maintain it throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and 90 pounds occasionally with or without accommodations.
Qualifications: Minimum experience/education includes demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Preferred qualifications include experience in animal husbandry, wide variety of species care (especially livestock/poultry/aquatics), and AALAS certifications. A valid NC driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of start date and must be maintained throughout employment.
