Job Description

Custodian PositionThe Holliston Public School District is searching for a Custodian to join our team at our elementary school campus. This position has a dual reporting relationship to our Director of Maintenance and the building Principals. The building Custodian is assigned to perform routine manual work cleaning/maintaining the building including the common areas, offices, and classrooms. You will work with the other members of the custodial/maintenance team to ensure the school is a clean and safe environment in which children can learn.Qualifications:Must have custodial experience and have some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment, have some skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to walk and stand on tile flooring for up to 1-2 miles per day, lift up to 50 pounds, move furniture weighing up to 50 pounds, bend and twist regularly at the waist, knees and neck.Responsibilities:Prepares for daily opening by unlocking building, classroom doors and turning on lightsSweeps/mops bathroomsDelivers materials and supplies to classrooms; maintains supplies closetMoves furniture as neededCleans lunchroom between periodsAssists in kitchen clean upReplenishes tissue, towels, and soap in restrooms, kitchens, and classroom facilitiesEmpties wastebaskets and other trash receptaclesPicks up paper and other trash in buildings and/or on school groundsMaintains clear sidewalks by sweeping and shoveling snowMaintains plantings and playground area; spreads mulchReports damage or needed repairs to Maintenance Supervisor or PrincipalPerforms minor repairs under direction of Maintenance SupervisorPreventative maintenance work in classrooms including opening and blowing out ventilatorsPrepares classrooms for school startBreaks down classrooms at year end.Other duties as related to the positionThis is a year-round, 12 month positionPublic School employees of Massachusetts are required to submit their fingerprints to a National Criminal Database check. The check will require you to pay a fee of $55 if you hold an Educator's License, or $35 if you are an unlicensed employee. In addition to the national background check, a satisfactory Massachusetts Criminal Record Check (CORI) is required.
