Job Description

Responsibilities The Street Cleaner III performs a combination of advanced-level street cleaning, mowing, debris removal, and mechanical maintenance duties for the City. This role involves leading small crews in the field, operating heavy and small equipment, and conducting both preventative and corrective repairs on City-owned small engine equipment. Exercises independent judgment and initiative to perform both field operations and mechanical duties. Street & Grounds Maintenance: Operates trucks, trailers, riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, blowers, toros, and sweepers for mowing, debris cleanup, and vegetation control on streets, medians, ditches, sidewalks, and public areas. Performs heavy manual labor such as clearing brush, trimming trees, and removing litter from public spaces. Inspects work areas for obstacles (e.g., manhole covers, rocks, gas lines) and marks them for safety. Assists in interdepartmental coordination for street and landscape projects. Responds to and resolves citizen requests or complaints professionally. Mechanical & Equipment Maintenance: Performs diagnostic inspections and repairs on small engines such as mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chainsaws, generators, and pumps. Conducts major and minor repairs including tune-ups, engine overhauls, carburetor cleaning, and part replacements. Plans repair work, determines necessary parts and tools, and documents all maintenance activity in the City’s system. Runs parts using a City vehicle and coordinates repairs with the fleet maintenance team. Performs preventive maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, lubrication) on both small and large field equipment. Operates shop tools and diagnostic equipment safely and efficiently. Performs other duties as assigned. Special projects as needed. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City’s timekeeping and attendance policy. Qualifications High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 7 years of combined experience in street maintenance, equipment operation, and mechanical repair; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of divisions and departments. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Position requires constant physical labor. Preferred: Certification in Small Engine Repair (or equivalent). One-year certificate from college or technical school preferred. Benefits Employee-only medical insurance starts as low as $15 per month and the most expensive Employee & Family plan is less than $350 per month. City's own medical clinic staffed with an M.D. and two medical assistants. Employees and their covered dependents over the age of 5 can visit the clinic free of charge. Employees and their covered dependents also have access to virtual visits with a medical professional free of charge. College tuition reimbursement of up to $3,500 per year. Retirement: Employees contribute a portion of their salary each pay-period toward retirement and the City will match contributions by 200% (e.g., if you contribute $100, the City will contribute $200). Vacation accrual: • Less than 6 years of service – two weeks of vacation per year. • 6 to less than 11 years – three weeks per year. • 11 to less than 21 years – four weeks per year. • 21 to less than 26 years – five weeks per year. • 26 years and up – six weeks per year. #J-18808-Ljbffr Gfoat
