Position Overview

The Architectural Lighting Designer is a full-time, on-site role in the Tampa, FL office. This role is responsible for developing and implementing innovative, yet constructable lighting and control designs that incorporate architectural, interior design and landscape architectural considerations. Day-to-day tasks include but are not limited to: Creating lighting and control strategies; Luminaire research; Collaboration with architects, interior designers, landscape architects and owners; and Project management, ensuring the aesthetic, functional and budget requirements of lighting and control systems are met for new and renovated projects. The role will also involve reviewing standards, codes, and specifications to ensure compliance and excellence in project delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Engineering, or a related design industry field
  • 3 years of experience with applied knowledge in Lighting Design, creating innovative and functional lighting and control solutions for a variety of interior and exterior space types.
  • Basic knowledge of varying luminaire/lamp types and their application in the design of interior and exterior spaces.
  • Knowledge of Lighting Control systems and their integration into the lighting design.
  • Familiarity with Architectural, Interior Design and Landscape Architectural principles to complement project aesthetics and functionality.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with clients, architects, interior designers, landscape architects and other design and construction trades on project teams.
  • General understanding of industry standards, building codes, and sustainability principles.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, AGi32, Bluebeam, InDesign.
  • Familiarity with the lighting industry vendors, their equipment, and their reps/agents.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accreditation (LC, CLD) or a proven track record/service within IALD/IES is strongly desired
  • Strong 3D visualization skills (Enscape, Rhino/V-Ray) are preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to perform the necessary job-related functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Travel up to 20% for site investigations and assessments, or client meetings
  • Remain in a stationary standing or sitting position, for prolonged periods at a computer.
  • Work extended hours, evenings and weekends when necessary to meet business deadlines and attend lighting industry tradeshows and conferences.
  • Regular use of office equipment such as a computer/laptop and computer screens
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components
  • Ability to see differences between colors, shades and brightness
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  • May occasionally be exposed to the following work conditions: work near/with moving mechanical parts; work near/with electrical currents; work in high places or underground; withstand outdoor weather conditions; withstand moderate to very loud noises
